Made Studio Textiles Acrylic Templates have two uses.

If you like to hand piece, use the Acrylic Templates to mark both sewing and cutting lines. The open window design makes it easy to trace around the inside to mark the sewing line in one easy step. Tracing around the outside edge gives you the cutting line, which adds a quilter’s generous 1/4″ seam allowance (5/16″).

They are also used for fussy cutting, for both English paper piecing (EPP) and hand piecing techniques. The open window design allows you to clearly see the fabric pattern, making it easy to cut repeats.

For English paper piecing, use in conjunction with the EPP paper template of the same size.

It’s important to mark as close to the edge of the template as possible. Use a fine tip pencil or marker, the Sewline Fabric Pencils are ideal, as they give a consistent line and are fine enough to get into the points and close to the edge. Placing a fine-grit sheet of sandpaper under the fabric while tracing stops the fabric from moving and makes marking easier.
