Holidays stitched up… it’s back to quilting

Well… Christmas, New Year and the holidays have come and gone and I hope you all had a wonderful time doing whatever you enjoy doing with those you hold dear… and for most of us that would mean making some time for quilting and quilting friends.

Unfortunately I didn’t get quite as much quilting done as I had planned. Leading up to Christmas I suffered a dose of Vertigo which is not very conducive to putting one’s head down to sew, write or at times even stand up. All is good now and the head is well and truly down trying to play catch-up with my quilting and all the other things I had on the list.

Here’s  a snapshot of a couple of my holiday quilting projects. I’ve been playing with English paper piecing, toile and chintz style prints… and thinking of applique designs. For the English paper piecing, I used the 90 degree 1″ Hexagon and 1″ Square shapes from our heat-sensitive paper range. These are the same shapes used in the Lucy Boston ‘Patchwork of the Crosses’ block design but I’ve used them as in the ‘Aunt Clara’ quilt. See more here.

I started these pieced hexagons on a trip to the UK and France a couple of years ago. They were created using shapes from the 1½” Range, then surrounded by templates from the ‘Sashing Design 2’ Shape Pack. I’ve appliqued them to a ‘French General’ print and now I’m just trying to decide whether it needs a pieced or fabric-print outer border to finish it off.

The website has also taken quite a bit of time away from my joy of quilting. Since September, we had been experiencing a few ongoing things not working quite right on the site… and I was experiencing ongoing availability issues with getting them looked at by my web developer.

A couple of weeks prior to Christmas (never a good time) it was obvious that I needed to have someone else take a look at it. I’m happy to say I am now working with someone who is proving to be both knowledgeable and professional… and most importantly available… and has the required backup when not!

Things are now moving along again and I’m looking forward to soon being able to upload more content and getting back to quilting.

Like my quilting, I know the website will always be a work-in-progress but I have been getting a little frustrated with the tech side of things getting in the way of sharing the creative things.

I’ve just uploaded some details for English paper piecing workshops and Studio Session dates to the Workshop page and I will continue to add more workshops and dates as the year progresses.

If you would like to be on our mailing list to find out about upcoming workshops and patterns, please send me an email via the contact form.

I wish you all a wonderful 2015,

Happy Quilting, Jo
