Welcome to my blog Nine patch close-up

I enjoy designing both traditional and contemporary style quilts but I’ve always loved traditional techniques, like English paper piecing (EPP) and turned-edge appliqué. But like most of you I have other things I prefer to do than starch, glue, tack and unpick seam allowances. I love the soft appearance of traditional needle-turn appliqué and while I enjoy the sewing process, it does take time and patience to master.

I know from talking to other quilters it’s the time and patience level required that puts them off doing these techniques. Over the years I have developed my own way of doing things… things I would like to share with you. This has lead me to design and manufacture a range of templates and develop techniques that will assist both novice and experienced quilters alike to get great results in a time efficient way.

Having a design background I enjoy the design process, but I know some quilters are daunted by it. I hope my easy ready-to-use templates will inspire and give you confidence to design your own quilting projects.

Designing a quilt is like cooking… just start with the main ingredient and add to taste! With this in mind, I have designed a range of  ‘Shape Packs’ containing single shape templates and ‘Design Packs’ containing templates for blocks, borders and centre designs. The idea being that you choose the shape, block or centre design you want to start with, decide on a layout, add sashings etc. then choose a border design to finish. And for those who just don’t cook!… you’re welcome to use one of my recipes.
